Job Title: Automation Engineer / PLC Programmer
Location: Leicester (Head Office), with nationwide travel to customer sites
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per year + Company Car + Benefits Package
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am – 4 pm

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control systems for automated processes, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
  • Write, test, and maintain PLC software using ladder logic and structured text.
  • Use AutoCAD to design control panel layouts and electrical schematics.
  • Lead installation and commissioning of control panels and PLC systems, adhering to safety and compliance standards.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, troubleshoot existing control systems, and resolve issues effectively.
  • Document project details, including Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects align with company standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Time-Served or City & Guilds Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in PLC programming and control system design, with hands-on installation and maintenance experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for designing electrical schematics and control panels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Siemens, Schneider, and Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Knowledge of combustion/burner controls.
  • Background in industries such as manufacturing, food processing, or energy.
  • Familiarity with Combined Heat and Power systems.
