We are recruiting for a Head of Engineering to lead the strategic and operational running of the Engineering Department. The successful candidate will oversee the team and drive improvements in efficiency, safety, and quality while ensuring the site’s machinery and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.

Position: Head of Engineering

Location: Wolverhampton, West Midlands

Employment Benefits: Up to £90,000 per annum

Your Responsibilities

• Lead the Engineering Department by overseeing operations to ensure smooth functioning and identifying areas for improvement.
• Inspire and guide a skilled team of engineers, managers, planners, and technicians to achieve their full potential.
• Identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently, addressing root causes to prevent recurrence.
• Manage key projects such as installations, upgrades, and new machinery, ensuring timely, budget-friendly, and high-standard completion.
• Establish and oversee a factory-wide preventative maintenance system to maintain machinery in optimal condition.
• Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy usage across the site, contributing to significant cost savings.
• Maintain and monitor maintenance and repair budgets, ensuring value for money while keeping equipment performing effectively.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with food safety, health and safety, and environmental regulations.
• Use KPIs and performance data to evaluate operations, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with various departments to align engineering goals with broader business objectives.
• Supervise third-party contractors to ensure their work meets company standards and supports operational requirements.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a food manufacturing business, with 950+ employees and a turnover of circa £200 million. Operating for over three decades, the company is a key player in the UK’s food manufacturing sector that serves both retail and food service markets.

The business operates a modern processing plant near Wolverhampton, and has recently expanded with updated production areas, enhanced refrigeration systems, and energy efficient machinery.

What we are looking for:

• A passionate and driven Engineering leader with food experience (ideally poultry)
• Degree level or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Proven experience leading an engineering team within a manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and plant equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage budgets, people, and projects effectively.
