Salary: £27,000 – £29,000 depending on experience
Shift Pattern: The laboratory operates a weekly rotating shift pattern.
Expected shift times are approximately:
- 6:00am–2:00pm
- 9:00am–5:00pm
- 11:00am–7:00pm

We’re recruiting for a specialist UK manufacturer producing high purity lithium chemicals used across electric vehicles, batteries, pharmaceuticals, glass, ceramics and other advanced industries.
Following significant investment across its Basingstoke operations, the business is continuing to grow and is now looking for an Analytical Chemist to join its small and supportive laboratory team.
You’ll test materials throughout the manufacturing process, helping production maintain quality, confirm product purity and release finished products on time. You’ll also support customer testing, method development and wider laboratory improvement projects.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Testing raw materials, intermediate samples and finished products
- Carrying out in process testing to confirm product quality and purity
- Analysing samples submitted by external customers
- Preparing analytical standards, reagents and samples
- Recording results accurately to maintain quality and traceability
- Preparing and releasing certificates of analysis
- Calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
- Supporting the development of new analytical methods
- Improving existing testing methods and laboratory procedures
- Supporting new products and chemical manufacturing processes
- Liaising with production to ensure products are tested and released on time
- Providing technical support when results fall outside specification
- Supporting improvements to laboratory documentation and quality systems
- Managing archived samples and disposing of chemical waste safely
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe laboratory environment
You’ll join a small laboratory team reporting to the Laboratory Manager.
Some duties may involve entering manufacturing areas. Full PPE will be provided, which may include protective clothing, gloves, goggles, masks and respiratory equipment.
What We’re Looking For:
- Educational experience in chemistry, analytical chemistry or a related scientific subject
- A clear and consistent interest in chemistry throughout your education or career
- Some practical laboratory experience, whether gained through education or employment
- Good numerical skills and confidence completing scientific calculations
- High levels of attention to detail and accurate record keeping
- Good computer skills, including spreadsheets and laboratory equipment systems
- The ability to organise your workload and manage changing priorities
- A proactive approach during both busy and quieter periods
- Solid problem solving skills
- Confidence communicating with production and wider site teams
- A grounded, adaptable and reliable attitude
- A high focus on health, safety, quality and environmental standard.
What a Typical Day Looks Like:
- Checking product purity during manufacture
- Testing incoming raw materials
- Investigating an unexpected result
- Preparing documentation for product release
- Responding to testing requests from production
Quieter periods provide time to support method development, improve documentation, maintain equipment and take ownership of wider laboratory projects.
