We’re recruiting an experienced CNC Press Brake Setter / Operator for an fantastic sheet metal manufacturer in Loughborough. You’ll be working with modern Amada machinery, producing formed components from engineering drawings and taking responsibility for getting the setup, tooling and finished part right before the batch starts running.

Job Title: CNC Press Brake Setter / Operator
Money: Starting from £15.50 per hour
Hours / Shifts: Monday to Friday, rotating 6:00am – 2:00pm and 2:00pm – 10:00pm

What’s the job?

This is a genuine Setter / Operator position.

You won’t simply be loading material into a machine somebody else has prepared.

You’ll be expected to understand the drawing, select the correct tooling, set the machine, produce the first component and check it properly before committing to a full batch.

Day to day, you’ll be:

• Setting and operating Amada CNC Press Brake machinery.
• Loading programmes and adjusting machine settings where required.
• Reading and working from engineering drawings.
• Selecting and setting the correct tooling.
• Producing formed components in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
• Completing first off inspections before running production batches.
• Checking bend angles, dimensions and tolerances.
• Using Verniers, callipers, angle gauges and other measuring equipment.
• Making offsets and adjustments to achieve the required finished dimensions.
• Identifying incorrect bends, tooling issues or material movement before components are wasted.
• Handling sheet metal components safely throughout the forming process.
• Carrying out basic machine checks and assisting with fault finding.
• Keeping the machine, tooling and surrounding area clean and organised.

The important bit is that you can set the machine yourself.

If most of your experience involves loading blanks into somebody else’s setup and pressing the pedals, this probably isn’t the role for you.

What experience do you need?

You’ll need previous experience setting and operating CNC Press Brake machinery within a sheet metal, fabrication or precision manufacturing environment.

Experience with Amada machinery would transfer particularly well, although backgrounds using equipment such as:

• Trumpf
• Bystronic
• Safan
• LVD
• Or similar CNC Press Brakes

…would also be considered.

You should be confident:

• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Selecting and setting Press Brake tooling.
• Understanding bend sequences, angles and tolerances.
• Working with different material types and thicknesses.
• Completing first off inspections.
• Making your own offsets and adjustments.
• Inspecting your finished work accurately.
• Recognising forming problems before producing an entire batch incorrectly.
• Working independently once you’ve been given the job.

Ultimately, they need someone who understands the relationship between the drawing, tooling, material and finished component.
