Can you set a laser, read the drawing and spot a bad cut before it wastes a full sheet?

This role is for someone who understands more than where the start button is.

Starting from £15 per hour | Rotating Days | Loughborough

You’ll be setting and operating CNC laser cutting machinery, producing sheet metal components from engineering drawings and checking that the finished parts are right before they move to the next stage of production.

The company manufactures a wide range of metal products from its Loughborough facility and continues to invest in machinery, automation and training. Once permanent, you’ll have access to a profit share scheme, enhanced overtime rates and an additional £1 per hour as you become trained across more areas of the business.

Position: CNC Laser Setter / Operator
Location: Loughborough, Leicestershire
Hours: Monday to Friday, rotating shifts
Morning shift: 6:00am to 2:00pm
Afternoon shift: 2:00pm to 10:00pm
Pay: Starting from £15 per hour
Employment: Temp to permanent, with the first 13 weeks completed through Your Recruiters

What you’ll be doing

  • Setting and operating CNC laser cutting machinery
  • Loading the correct programmes and adjusting machine settings for each job
  • Reading and working from engineering drawings
  • Producing sheet metal components in mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium
  • Checking finished parts using verniers, calipers and micrometers
  • Identifying cutting faults and making adjustments before material is wasted
  • Loading raw material and unloading finished components
  • Using a counterbalance forklift once trained and authorised
  • Carrying out basic machine checks and assisting with fault finding
  • Keeping the machine and surrounding work area clean and safe

What you’ll need

Previous experience operating CNC or laser cutting machinery is required.

Experience using Amada, Trumpf, Bystronic or similar equipment would transfer particularly well.

You should also be able to:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Set or adjust machinery for different jobs
  • Inspect your own work using measuring equipment
  • Recognise cutting faults and react before they become expensive
  • Work without needing every step explained to you
  • Contribute as part of a wider production team
  • Work the rotating 6:00am–2:00pm and 2:00pm–10:00pm shifts

What happens when you become permanent?

The permanent employment package includes:

  • Profit share scheme
  • Multi skilled bonus worth an additional £1 per hour
  • Enhanced overtime rates
  • 30 days’ holiday, including bank holidays
  • Enhanced sick pay
  • Healthcare plan
  • Group life cover
  • Training on additional machinery and production processes
  • A defined route into more skilled and responsible positions
  • Opportunities to apply for vacancies internally
  • Cycle to Work scheme

Why this role is worth considering

You won’t be limited to loading material and watching the machine run.

The company wants people who are interested in understanding the process, improving their technical knowledge and becoming capable across more than one area. That development is reflected in the additional hourly bonus available to multi-skilled employees.

You’ll also be working with high spec sheet metal machinery in a clean manufacturing facility, producing components for a wide range of products rather than repeating one basic part indefinitely.
