Job Title: Operations Manager

Location: Leicester

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:30am – 4:30pm, Friday early finish

We are working with a fantastic Leicester based manufacturing business that specialises in sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, painting, finishing, assembly and delivery.

This is a proper SME manufacturing environment. Laser cutting, press brakes, CNC and manual machining (milling & turning), manual and robotic welding, fabrication, paint, finishing, packing, assembly and dispatch.

The business supplies into demanding sectors where quality, delivery, cost control and operational discipline all matter.

They are now looking for an Operations Manager who can bring structure, ownership and joined up thinking across the operational side of the business.

What You Will Be Doing:

As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for wider operational performance across the business.

You will work across production, planning, purchasing, quality, design, dispatch and customer priorities, making sure the right people are talking, the right decisions are being made, and problems are dealt with before they become bigger issues.

Your Role Will Include:

• Acting as the link between the Managing Director and the wider operational teams.
• Working across production, quality, purchasing, planning, design and dispatch.
• Keeping customer deadlines, material availability, capacity and production priorities aligned.
• Supporting department managers with structure, communication and accountability.
• Acting as an escalation point for operational, customer or delivery issues.
• Driving practical improvements across the business using data, KPIs and manufacturing experience.

What Kind of Person Are We Looking for:

You need to come from manufacturing. Proper manufacturing.

This is not a role for someone who has only managed from behind a dashboard. You need to understand the pace, pressure and moving parts of a real engineering environment.

Your background could be sheet metal fabrication, subcontract manufacturing, precision engineering, machining, fabrication and welding, multi process manufacturing or SME engineering.

What matters most is that you can work across departments, not just inside one of them. You need enough technical credibility to walk the factory, understand what is happening, challenge issues sensibly and earn respect from the people doing the work.

You will probably suit this role if you are commercially aware, calm under pressure, confident influencing managers, practical with data, and focused on delivery, quality, cost control and continuous improvement.
