A late shift only works when somebody properly owns it. If you can keep the people, production and quality moving without needing the day shift to hold your hand, keep reading.

We’re recruiting an experienced Fabrication Supervisor to lead the PM shift for a fantastic sheet metal manufacturer in Leicestershire. You’ll be running a skilled fabrication team across CNC Press Brake, welding and laser cutting, making sure the work gets done properly while maintaining the standards expected across the site.

Job Title: Fabrication Supervisor – PM Shift
Money: Up to £19.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
Hours / Shifts: Monday to Thursday, 2:00pm– Midnight | Fridays OFF
Other benefits: Four day working week, overtime opportunities, free parking, company uniform, increasing holiday entitlement, Tool Club, birthday treats and company social events.

What’s the job?

This is a genuine shop floor leadership position.

Once the PM shift gets going, you’ll be responsible for keeping the fabrication team organised, production moving and standards where they need to be.

You’ll be supervising a team made up of CNC Press Brake Setter / Operators, Welders and Laser Operators, so a good understanding of sheet metal fabrication is essential.

Day to day, you’ll be:

  • Supervising and supporting the PM fabrication team.
  • Organising workload and helping keep production moving throughout the shift.
  • Ensuring production targets and priorities are understood and achieved.
  • Maintaining quality standards across the department.
  • Providing technical guidance and practical support when problems arise.
  • Working across fabrication processes including welding, CNC Press Brake and laser cutting.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Making sure work is being completed safely and correctly.
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and productive workshop.
  • Communicating clearly with management and the wider production team.
  • Making sure any issues from the shift are properly communicated rather than becoming tomorrow morning’s surprise.

You’ll need to be visible on the shop floor and comfortable getting involved.

This isn’t a position for somebody who wants to supervise fabrication from behind a computer screen.

What experience do you need?

You’ll need extensive sheet metal fabrication experience alongside previous Team Leader or Supervisory experience.

You don’t necessarily need to be the best Welder, Press Brake Setter and Laser Operator in Leicestershire simultaneously.

You do need to understand the processes well enough to lead the people carrying them out.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Extensive sheet metal fabrication experience.
  • Previous Supervisory or Team Leadership experience.
  • Good knowledge of welding and fabrication.
  • Good understanding of CNC Press Brake processes.
  • Good understanding of laser cutting.
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Confidence making decisions during the shift.
  • The ability to support and guide experienced production employees.
  • A proactive, hands on leadership style.
  • Good communication with both the shop floor and management.

Ultimately, you need to be someone the team can come to when there’s a problem and someone management can trust to keep the shift running when they’re not standing next to you.
