We’re recruiting an experienced Quality Inspector for a fantastic sheet metal manufacturer in Leicestershire. You’ll be checking precision sheet metal components throughout production, working from engineering drawings and making sure anything that leaves the shop floor is actually right.

Job Title: Quality Inspector – Sheet Metal
Money: £15.00 – £16.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
Hours / Shifts: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am – 5:00pm | Friday, 8:00am – 2:30pm

What’s the job?

This is a hands on Quality Inspector position within a busy sheet metal manufacturing environment.

You’ll be inspecting components throughout the manufacturing process, checking them against engineering drawings and customer specifications and making sure any issues are picked up before they become somebody else’s problem further down the line.

Day to day, you’ll be:

• Carrying out first off inspections.
• Completing in process quality checks.
• Carrying out final inspections before components leave production.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Checking manufactured components against drawings and customer specifications.
• Using Verniers, callipers, height gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
• Recording inspection results clearly and accurately.
• Identifying dimensional or quality issues.
• Communicating problems clearly with the production team.
• Working closely with fabrication and CNC Press Brake departments.
• Keeping the quality area clean, organised and ready for audits.

You’ll be inspecting work coming through a proper sheet metal manufacturing environment, so understanding the processes behind the component is just as important as knowing how to hold a pair of Verniers.

What experience do you need?

This bit is important.

You must have previous Quality Inspection experience within the sheet metal industry.

You should be confident:

• Inspecting fabricated sheet metal components.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Using Verniers and callipers accurately.
• Using height gauges and other engineering measuring equipment.
• Understanding tolerances and dimensions.
• Carrying out first off, in process and final inspections.
• Recording inspection results accurately.
• Identifying when something doesn’t meet specification.
• Challenging quality issues when required.
• Communicating confidently with people on the shop floor.

You’ll need to be methodical, reliable and comfortable being the person who says “this isn’t right” when something doesn’t meet the drawing.

Where will you be working?

You’ll be joining a sheet metal manufacturer with processes covering:

Fibre Laser Cutting | CNC Press Brake Forming | MIG & TIG Fabrication | Powder Coating | Assembly

That means you’ll be inspecting components produced through different areas of the manufacturing process rather than checking the same repetitive part all day.

You’ll work closely with the people actually producing the components, helping maintain standards and dealing with issues while they can still be corrected.
